Distinguished by its richly modeled surface and bold architectural form, the mirror features a central cartouche flanked by swan-neck pediments above an egg-and-dart molded frame with trailing vine decoration and sides ornamented with carved oak leaves. The deeply worked gesso decoration retains exceptional character and texture throughout, surrounding a central mercury glass plate.

The strong silhouette and sculptural quality of the frame give the mirror considerable presence despite its relatively restrained scale. The warm gilded surface and softly aged mercury plate lend the piece depth, texture, and a particularly atmospheric quality.
