Description
Oval mirror with polychrome ceramic frame, Italian production, Sicilian craftsmanship by Giovanni De Simone, 1950s.
The taste and warmth of southern Italy come alive in this oval mirror, featuring a precious hand-crafted and hand-painted majolica frame from the historic De Simone workshop. The brand is named after its noble founder, Count Giovanni De Simone of Palermo, a discerning collector and lover of beauty and the good life, who in the mid-20th century decided to establish his own ceramics and majolica production house. The colors, traditional motifs, symbols, and allegories, filtered through the Count's refined taste, have resulted in a line of unique artifacts appreciated even beyond the borders of Sicily.
This mirror is distinguished by its brightly painted frame, embodying a vibrant Mediterranean aesthetic, with a floral garland encircling its perimeter. Birds poised to take flight can be seen among the petals and leaves of an imagined garden born under the sun of Palermo. The mirror is versatile and can be placed in any setting, especially where a touch of color is needed and where the grand tradition of Sicilian ceramics and majolica can express its full aesthetic potential.
