Description
An exceptional Art Nouveau / Jugendstil wall mirror from the Vienna Secession period, manufactured in Vienna, Austria. Attributed to Georg Klimt and dated back to 1897. A high-quality piece made for a theatre: the upper center of the frame features a beautifully detailed theatrical Tragedy mask, while the remaining frame evokes the appearance of a stage curtain. The lower section is adorned with a turquoise-whitish decorative stone of opaline glass, and the dates 1871 and 1897 are inscribed. This beautiful mirror is a unique piece, carefully crafted from iron and white metal, executed with a high standard of quality and workmanship, entirely hand-hammered and -forged. The object is in very good condition. It should be noted that the opaline glass stone shows a small chip on the reverse, which is fortunately not visible from the front (please see phots). The mirror plate was replaced at a later date. A characterful mirror of remarkable craftsmanship, vividly reflecting the design ideals of its time. Dimensions: 22 in. wide x 24 in. high; mirror plate approximately 14 x 10.5 in.
