Description
Very fine early 18th century Italian gessoed and painted baroque overmantel mirror, possibly Florentine, the foliate and fruit carved frame with central cartouche depicting a rampant lion over a quartered shield, with rocaille and acanthus carving throughout, the surface mostly gesso having traces of polychrome and gilt decoration, having 19th century mercury glass plate, the whole of robust scale and exuberant design.
