Description
A Swedish period Gustavian painted and gilt trumeau mirror from the late 18th century with original paint and original split mercury glass. This exquisite Swedish trumeau mirror features a slender linear Silhouette, beautifully adorned with gilt motifs. An egg-and-dart and dentil decorated cornice surmounts a ribbon-tied swag that seems to be holding delicate roses. The original split mercury glass mirror plate is surrounded by beads and twisted ribbon moldings, while the lower section of the mirror is subtly decorated with a rod, around which wheat heads are wrapped and terminated with a star on each extremity. Painted on a light cream background, these decorative accents create an elegant effect typical of the Gustavian period. With its narrow proportions and graceful décor, this Swedish trumeau mirror, circa 1790 will enliven any space beautifully, from a bedroom to a hallway.
