1940's Mirror with Transparent Shaped Glass Frame & Brass by Fontana Arte

$ 3,000
  • Description
    Giò Ponti joined Luigi Fontana in 1932 and they founded Fontana Arte. This mirror was made in Milan in 1940.
    Stamped with two crossed swords on the top front.

    Gio Ponti begins collaborating with Pietro Chiesa and FontanaArte is born.

    To give new momentum to the production of prestigious furnishing objects, Gio Ponti joined forces with Pietro Chiesa in the artistic direction of Luigi Fontana. Along with the renowned master glassmaker, all the skilled artisans from his workshop were brought into the company. Shortly afterward, the “Fontana Arte” division was established, dedicated to more artisanal production: from artistic stained glass to limited series of furniture and lighting pieces. In the years that followed, the creative energy of Pietro Chiesa—a versatile master with deep cultural knowledge and technical expertise—played a key role in the company. He designed over a thousand different objects, some of which became design milestones and are still in production today, such as the Fontana curved table (1932), the Cartoccio vase (1932), and the Luminator floor lamp (1933).
