GOOD GEORGE I / II GESSO & GILTWOOD MIRROR, England, c1730
Gesso & Giltwood, Vauxhall Glass Plate, both original
Retaining the original gilding and rectangular beveled Vauxhall plate, the thin plate within a strapwork and paterae carved border, mounted by a swan-neck cresting centered by a cabochon and acanthus carved finial between trellis diapering, the surround having further acanthus leaves raised on a punched (or coined) ground, above an undulating scrolling acanthus and shell carved apron; the plate with a wide but shallow bevel, and softness appropriate to age; the cast brass girandoles well fitted replacements. -

Period: 18th Century Materials: Gesso, Giltwood, Glass Condition: Excellent. Excellent with minor losses about to the gilt; the glass with some silver degradation; wonderful rich warm tone to the gilt.
