Period Rococo Mirror, Sweden, Late 18th Century
-
Description
A rare period Rococo mirror crafted in Stockholm at the end of the 18th century, retaining its original carved surface and expressive sculptural character. The frame features richly modeled rocaille ornamentation with scrolling foliage, asymmetrical contours, and a finely carved crest and apron, all emblematic of Swedish Rococo craftsmanship. The surface shows a beautifully aged patina developed over more than two centuries, adding depth and authenticity without compromising the integrity of the carving. The glass is old but not original, consistent with the functional history of true period mirrors. Elegant in scale and visually light despite its decorative richness, this mirror serves as a strong architectural accent above a console, commode, or within a layered wall installation. A genuine late-18th-century Swedish Rococo example, offering both sculptural presence and historical integrity.
