Description
Probably New York, ca. 1815.
Gilt wood and gesso, glass and mirror tablets.
Excellent condition, original throughout, including backboards
Eglomise tablet and mirror are in untouched condition.
This rare, imposing size Federal mirror has a stepped-out molded cornice above balls and an eglomise tablet depicting a lyrical-musical motif centered below drapery swags of floral decoration. The mirror plate is flanked by double, classical -style columns with caps resting on blocks. The carved, gilt wood and gesso mirror frame has survived in a remarkable state of preservation. -
