Description
Ingrid Atterberg (1920-2008) stands out as a prominent figure in the rich tapestry of 20th-century Swedish ceramic design.
During the 1950s and 1960s, she played a pivotal role as a leading designer at the Upsala-Ekeby factory.
Her work is proudly displayed at the Swedish National Museum of Art and Design.
Right from the beginning, she fully embraced her training as a ceramist, immersing herself in the fascinating world of clays, glazes, and various techniques.
One of her remarkable accomplishments was the revival of black clay, a distinctive mix of red clay and manganese oxide, which became a hallmark in many of her artistic series. Beyond crafting her own stunning pieces, she also created a series known as Sintergods, which brilliantly highlighted stoneware effects using Uppland clay. Moreover, she ingeniously found a way to utilize the properties of chamotte clay without having to twist it. -
