Description
Set of six chairs model "Africa" designed by Afra & Tobia Scarpa, from the "Artona" series produced by Maxalto. Made in walnut with ebonised inlays, black leather upholstery and brass details. Italy 1970s.
Measurements: W 56 x D 44 x H 46/79 cm
The Scarpa couple is responsible for many legendary pieces. They designed the Soriana chair (1970), the Jucker lamp (1963), the Bastiano series (1960) and the Monk chair (1973). Their pieces have been produced by major companies such as Knoll International and Cassina. Biography Afra Bianchin and Tobia Scarpa were born in Italy in 1937 and 1935 respectively. They studied at the University Institute of Architecture in Venice. They began their careers in 1958, specialising in the creation of Murano glass products. They soon achieved great success, working with some of the biggest names in design, such as B&B Italia and Cassina. They also designed shops for Benetton. Even today, the projects they have created are exhibited in major museums around the world. They have also been the subject of major international exhibitions.
Every item LA Studio offers is checked by our team of 10 craftsmen in our in-house workshop. Special restoration or reupholstery requests can be done. Lighting can be electrified to the required voltage.
Every piece design of LA Studio or new production as they are made with natural materials or made by artisans they may vary in wood color, marble color or wood grain, etc.
