Description
Beautifully crafted and instantly recognizable, these “Monk” chairs by Afra & Tobia Scarpa embody the duo’s refined approach to modern Italian design. Created in 1973, the model pairs a solid walnut frame with a suspended saddle-style seat in thick natural hide. The leather wraps over the structure and fastens with visible hardware at the corners, giving the chair its distinctive architectural presence.
The patinated leather shows a warm, rich tone that highlights the material’s character and complements the deep color of the wood. The proportions are low, wide, and inviting, with the flexible leather seat providing surprising comfort despite the minimalist construction.
A timeless example of Scarpa design—essential, tactile, and elegantly honest in both form and materials. Ideal for collectors and interiors that appreciate Italian modernism at its best. - More Information
