Description
Arne Vodder Desk Chair for Vamo Sonderborg in Teak and Original black Skai, Denmark, 1960s. The leather is slightly damaged on one small spot of the backrest, otherwise good original condition.
Arne Vodder (1926-2009) was a Danish furniture designer who is known for his modernist designs, which combined clean lines and functionalism with organic forms and natural materials. He is considered one of the most important furniture designers of the mid-20th century and his work is highly sought after by collectors today. Vodder trained as a cabinetmaker in Copenhagen before attending the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied under some of Denmark's most influential furniture designers, including Kaare Klint and Poul Henningsen. After graduating, he worked for various furniture companies before setting up his own design studio in the 1950s. Vodder's designs were characterized by their attention to detail, quality craftsmanship, and innovative use of materials. He was particularly skilled at working with wood and often incorporated organic shapes and forms into his furniture, such as his iconic 'Organic Chair'. He also experimented with new materials, such as laminated wood and fiberglass, and developed new techniques for working with them. Vodder's designs were widely recognized during his lifetime and he won numerous awards for his work, including the Lunning Prize and the Grand Prix at the Milan Triennale. His furniture remains highly sought after today and is held in the collections of many major museums and galleries around the world. -
