Description
Set of four bar stools designed by Börje Johanson and produced by Johanson Design in Markaryd, Sweden, during the 1950s. These stools exemplify mid-century Scandinavian modern design, combining sleek, functional aesthetics with high-quality materials.
The stools feature black imitation leather seats with a contoured, ergonomic shape, supported by a brass-plated metal base. The tulip-style pedestal and circular footrest provide both stability and comfort. The brass plating has developed a rich patina over time, adding character to the pieces.
Börje Johanson was a Swedish designer known for his modernist approach to seating, he’s the founder of Johanson Design, a company established in the late 1950s. Johanson Design quickly became one of Sweden’s leading manufacturers of high-quality seating for public and private spaces, focusing on both functionality and timeless aesthetics.
These stools reflect the era’s fascination with futuristic and space-age-inspired forms, while the combination of brass and black upholstery adds a sophisticated touch. Their swivel function and footrests make them practical as well as stylish.
The dimensions are width 49 cm (19.3 inches), depth 50 cm (19.7 inches), height 110 cm (43.3 inches), and seat height 82 cm (32.3 inches).
