Description
Oy Boman AB was a prominent Finnish furniture manufacturer in the early to mid 20th century. The company was known for producing finely crafted seating that balanced traditional Nordic sensibilities with modernist lines. Finnish furniture makers of the first half of the 20th century sought to create pieces that embodied simplicity and comfort while showcasing the natural beauty of materials.
This armchair features a fluid, sculptural body crafted in a light-coloured wood, accentuating its organic curves and inviting presence. One defining detail is the curved backrest that continues to the armrests, which is constructed out of symmetrically arranged wooden pieces. The roundness of the deign is highlighted by the back cushion that features a singular tufted button, which further increases the overall visual interest of the chair. Accompanied by a thick, plush seat cushion, the design offers both aesthetic charm and comfort. The soft, creamy upholstery complements the tone of the wood beautifully, enhancing the chair’s playful feel and mid-century modern look. The curved armrests and elegantly splayed legs lend both a sense of movement and lightness to the piece while still remaining grounded. This combination of bold, rounded shapes and careful proportions highlights the Nordic tendency to celebrate craftsmanship and human-centred ergonomics.
Ideal for creating an inviting corner in a living room or bedroom, this armchair effortlessly embodies the relaxed sophistication of Nordic modernism. It can offer a timeless and versatile addition to any space, bringing both visual interest and a sense of warmth that makes it a true statement piece.
