    Bruno Paul (1874–1968) German architect, designer, illustrator, and educator who played a foundational role in the development of modern design in early 20th-century Germany, and helped transition decorative arts toward clarity, restraint, and functional elegance.  This pair (attr.) from the 1930s has a strong rectilinear frame with rational proportions and clean horizontal rails using a luxurious Macassar ebony veneer.  Newer black leather seating.  Manufactured by Deutsche Werkstätten in Hellerauu Germany.
