Description
Inspired by the traditional milking stools used by shepherds in the Alps, the Tabouret Berger stool was designed in 1961 by Charlotte Perriand. Perriand designed pieces that were meant to be comfortably used and enjoyed in a space; the Berger stool does just that. These stools can be used alone as additional seating or combined into groupings for a stunning effect. Constructed of solid wood, it features a thick round ergonomic seat with a concave center and is supported by three hand turned legs. The Tabouret Stools have become enduring icons of the modern design movement and now produced by Cassina who continues the fine craftsmanship true to the original.
Charlotte Perriand joined the studio of Le Corbusier at 24 years of age. She experimented with steel, aluminum, and glass, developing a series of tubular steel chairs that remain a modern icon. Traveling to Japan to advise the government on how to export products to the West, and spent WWII exiled in Vietnam, where she discovered local woodwork and weaving techniques and embraced natural materials. Said to be one of the most influent French modernist designers, her work is highly collectible.
Cassina was established in 1927 in the Northern region of Brianza, Italy, an area noted for its skilled artisans and woodworkers. Rooted in high quality Italian craftsmanship Cassina began acquiring licenses to reproduce some of the world’s most well renowned furniture designs. The incredible quality of materials leads to the most amazing expression of form and function celebrating new design as well as highlighting notable designs of the past.
