Description
The great portfolio of Charles & Ray Eames is widely celebrated and serves as a model of inspiration for designers to this day. A momentous chapter in said portfolio is devoted to an important commission the Eames’ team received to design furniture for the Time Life Building in New York City which included a series of tables and most important; the Eames “Time Life” Executive Chair.
The Eames’ intentions were to capture the comfort of their popular Eames Lounge Chair in a more streamlined fashion using lessons learned from their Aluminum Group range. The shown model is a contemporary version of the chair as it exists today. This iteration chair features a swivel base equipped with tilt and height adjustment, perfect for achieving optimal comfort. While in the past Herman Miller produced a 4-star base on this design, the shown 5-star base is currently in production.
We have had countless Time Life Chairs in our Collection over time, this one in particular is perhaps the most special. While typically manufactured in leather, this chair features rarely-seen custom upholstery from the Herman Miller factory. It is said that this was an employee order where they selected a handsome mohair-like fabric paired with an espresso brown leather for the buttons and piping. This one-of-a-kind combination is a pleasure to see in person and even more of a pleasure to use. Each upholstered cushion on this chair remains perfectly plush with ample support. The aluminum hardware shows minor wear consistent with age and history. Overall, this custom Eames Time-Life Executive Chair is a preserved design artifact showing only minor wear consistent with age and history. It’s now ready for yet another life. -

Message from Seller:
Stories exist in many forms, we see them in objects. The aesthetic of those before us is passed down through their surviving creations. These are the objects we search for; to preserve, refine, & continue the story. Object Refinery combines design obsession, fine craftsmanship, and a love for history in our worldwide search for objects. Based in Connecticut, USA; we partner with a network of local artisans to restore and refine our findings before passing them on to the next collector.
