Set of 8 Italian Modern Neoclassical Dining Chairs in Carved Gilt Wood & Rattan
-
Description
A rare set of Italian Mid-Century dining chairs reflecting both traditional Italian chair making and daring modern sensibilities. The chairs are charming creations utilizing traditional Italian materials and design but put together using a refreshing design aesthetic and manner that allows them to stand as unique pieces. The chairs use the "Chiavari" chair as a starting point with its classic form and transcend it with light and airy approach that favors hand woven rattan seats. The wood frames are masterfully hand carved and captivate with their rich detail set against a light and airy layout. The pieces are subtly hand gilt adding refinement and glamour. The rattan seats anchor the pieces with natural materials and are delicately constructed in a soothing matched pattern Thus, the pieces stand as unique masterpieces of design.
The Chiavari chair is an important historic chair in Italian design and has been frequently used as a banquet chair to celebrate weddings. Gio Ponti adapted the classic Chiavari chair in his modern designs. -
