Price Upon Request
  • Description
A very rare wooden 'Compas' chair from circa 1925 attributed to Dutch artist Cornelis van der Sluys (1881 - 1944).

Cornelis van der Sluys was a Dutch furniture and textile designer, interior architect, ceramist and painter.  In 1906 he started as an independent artist and designer in The Hague. He designed a wide range of products, like curtains and packaging and he quickly started to design furniture as well.

His early furniture was in the style of Rationalism, of which Hendrik Berlage was the most prominent Dutch proponent at the time. His work in the 1920s showed a development towards a Functionalist style.
