Description
Simplicity, functionality, and elegance - these are the basic aspects of Danish design and accordingly, of this sophisticated wing-back chair. This unique model is a great representation of the quality and craftsmanship of Danish master cabinetmakers and the immediately recognizable characteristics of Scandinavian design.
Danish design is torn between epochs; it is a term that accommodates both the functional craftsmanship of the 1950s Golden Age, and the present-day appreciation of Hygge. This is without a doubt a difficult task, however this chair manages to encapsulate both ideals. From the welcoming winged body and the stained beech legs to the cosy upholstery, this chair expresses a quality of cosiness and comfortable conviviality that engenders a feeling of contentment. The distinctive shape is a result of the two “ears” that encompass the sitter. The armrests are gently curved outwards, while the slightly tapered legs give this chair a balanced appearance. Together with the button tufting on the back, the brown lining is a creative and stylish form of ornamentation. The lining frames the premium upholstery beautifully, while also highlighting the elegant lines of the structure.
This model further illustrates how modernist design can be warm and cosy despite its reputation of often cold simplicity. The elegant light upholstery highlights the beautiful, flowing lines of the back and armrests, complemented by the slender legs. The timeless design of this chair is a frontrunner of what is considered mid-century Danish Modern.
