Description
Technical ingenuity and mastery are indispensable, and fuel each other to achieve equally sublime and atmospheric results in De Puydt furniture. This three-seater sofa is an exceptional piece that is just as stunning as it is hard to come by.
Throughout the 20th century, solid wood had been the most important furniture material in Europe. This is especially true for the mid-century era, during which natural wood was a staple material to enhance both the structural and visual aspect of furniture. The cabinetmaker’s fine sense of proportion, line tension and balance between the surfaces - and how skillfully they carried in the heritage of traditional design - is also evident in this piece. Furthermore, the elegant, lightly textured upholstery of the seat and round back cushions beautifully complement the wood frame. The back cushions lay loose against the back frame, and can be easily removed depending on the sitter’s preference. The bottom consists of three upholstered cushions, framed by the armrests which connect to the front legs. The woodworking truly shows the overall quality of this sofa: the frame is refined, and the attention to detail shows the design and manufacturing skills of De Puydt. This sofa was evidently constructed with extraordinary care - the traditional joinery technique is impeccable, the surfaces smooth, and the stability unquestionable. This model can be placed in any environment to enhance the visual quality of its surroundings. The upholstery adds a modern edge to the natural wood, while keeping the rustic, mid-century look as the focus.
Clever and high-quality, this mid-century sofa is a design staple, perfect to bring understated elegance to any space.
