  • Description
Douglas Snelling Dining Chairs for Functional Products Pty Ltd, Pair, c. 1950s
Pair of dining chairs designed by Douglas Snelling for Functional Products Pty Ltd, Australia, circa 1950s.
Snelling is widely regarded as an important figure in Australian post-war modern design, often seen as a link between Asia-Pacific design and California modernism. These chairs exhibit his recognizable splayed-frame construction, sometimes associated with the relaxed “California” influence in his work.
The chairs feature wood frames with dark green woven webbed seats and backs. The straps have been newly replaced in keeping with the original design. The frames have been reglued at the joints and are sturdy and ready for use.
    Condition:
Very good vintage condition. Newly applied black vintage-style straps. All joints have been reglued and the chairs are structurally sturdy. Wood frames show minor abrasions, scratches, and wear consistent with age and use. Presents well.
    Dimensions:
    18.5" W × 18.5" D × 34" H
    Seat height: 18"
