Description
Early Edward Wormley for Dunbar Sofa, c. 1940
An early sofa designed by Edward Wormley for Dunbar, dating to approximately 1940. This substantial example features a generous seating surface, a metal substructure, and a striking angled side profile that creates a dramatic architectural silhouette that of Art Deco Sofas in the 1930's. The design reflects Wormley's early exploration of modern form, balancing clean lines with exceptional comfort and scale.
The sofa retains its original structural integrity and presents with strong bones, making it an excellent candidate for restoration or customization. It was reupholstered in corduroy at some point in its history and would benefit from fresh upholstery to fully realize its design potential.
The underside reveals solid wood block legs. Two small wheels are attached beneath the front section and may be removed if desired.
We offer reupholstery services with a two-week turnaround using COM (Customer's Own Material). Please inquire for pricing and details.
Condition
Structurally sound. Previously reupholstered in corduroy. Upholstery shows age and would benefit from replacement. Metal frame and overall construction remain solid.
