Description
The Lysmasken lounge chair, designed by Eric Sigfrid Persson and produced by AB Möbelkultur in Sweden during the 1970s, is a rare and striking example of Scandinavian mid-century modernism. Its sculptural form and innovative construction highlight the experimental spirit of the era. The chair’s continuous aluminum frame creates a seamless, flowing structure that replaces traditional legs, resulting in a design that is both stable and visually light, almost appearing to float.
The seating surface is supported by an internal canvas structure, which flexes to accommodate the user’s body, offering a combination of flexibility and comfort. Upholstered in a soft teddy fabric, the chair’s tactile surface contrasts warmly against the polished aluminum frame, enhancing its organic, biomorphic silhouette. The curvaceous contours are not only aesthetically pleasing but also ergonomic, promoting a relaxed seating posture.
Named “Lysmasken” meaning “glowworm” in Swedish, this chair is celebrated for its avant-garde aesthetics and functional design. It embodies the Scandinavian designers’ mid-century emphasis on blending modern materials with human-centered innovation. The Lysmasken lounge chair remains a rare collector’s piece that exemplifies bold craftsmanship and thoughtful design.
Its dimensions are 60 cm in width, 155 cm in depth, 78 cm in height, with a seat height of 28 cm.
