Description
In much of Europe the desire for functionalism went hand in hand with understatement, refinement, and elegance for much of the mid-century era. Still, there was also room for playfulness in the form of unique fabrics and details.
Over the centuries, furniture fashion has deviated from ornate, classic looks to styles that blur the lines between artistry and functionality. As such this daybed has a streamlined, elegant look achieved by the natural materials and functional elements. The focus is divided equally between the solid oak wood base and legs and the fully upholstered mattress. The square mattress beautifully covers the body, following its straight lines. Kilim fabric, characterized by its intricate geometric patterns, hails from a centuries-old tradition, originally woven by nomadic tribes in the Middle East and Asia. The word ‘Kilim’ refers to a pileless textile, created by one of many flat weaving techniques. It’s commonly made by interweaving the warps threads and weft threads on looms, using antique kilim techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation. Its enduring appeal thus lies in its captivating blend of heritage and aesthetics. The geometric pattern adds to the modern shape and highlights the outline. The balance of the materials, surfaces, and textures is striking, especially the pairing of the fabric and the simple oak base. The structure is completed by square legs that assure stability and also show off the beauty of oak. The daybed, this hybrid form of seating has many advantages; unlike traditional sofas, this modern bench-style daybed won't block the view of the window and the deep seat also means more space for pillows or throws to customize it.
This elegant accent daybed represents the fusion of mid-century European craftsmanship and distinct design aesthetics, making it an ideal addition to any contemporary living space.
