Description
This pair of mid-century European lounge chairs combines a visually stunning structural body with expert woodworking and high quality materials. The 1960s saw brilliant designers working to create furniture of the highest quality that explored truly modern shapes and forms.
These designers experimented with new materials and construction methods but, crucially, they all had a formal training, either as architects or as furniture makers. This pair of sculptural lounge chairs show how successful these experiments were. These chairs are all about the gorgeous wood structures. The spindle backs and arms are defining in particular, creating an airy, light look. The curve of the armrests and the back legs contrast nicely to the straight lines of the wooden spindles. There is a perfect balance between the horizontal and the vertical lines, and between the flowing curves and the more geometrical lines. The solid wood base contrast nicely with the light linen cushions. The removable seat and button tufted back cushions are upholstered in a premium fabric to assure great sitting comfort. Thanks to the fabric and its colour, the slightly elongated seats are prominent.
The end of World War II coincided with a raft of new ways that wood was being used, which designers and manufacturers turned to their advantage by updating furniture from the purely functional to functional, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing. These lounge chairs are prime examples of this trend.
