This elegant winged lounge chair is a great representation of the quality and craftsmanship of mid-century European cabinetmakers and the immediately recognizable characteristics of the era’s modernist design.

The welcoming, rounded shape of the voluminous arm- and backrest is a signature characteristic of European Modernism, especially from the Nordic countries, where this model is likely from. The back is lightly bent and hugs a sitter in the manner of the famous Papa Bear chair by Hans Wegner, while the slender, tapered wood legs prevent the design from looking heavy. The legs’ warm brown colour nicely contrasts to the soft, light colour of the fully upholstered body. This lounge chair is true to the era’s ideals that rejected the pseudo-historical use of ornamentation, instead favouring a pared-down and uncluttered look. The design allows the aesthetics to flow naturally, which is very apparent in the gently curving lines uninterrupted from the top to the seat.
