A beautiful pair of armchairs in wicker and bent malacca, produced by Fratelli Castano Industria Mobili in Giunco, Italy, 1960s.
With their enveloping form, this pair of lounge chairs in wicker and bent malacca embodies the Italian style of the 1960s. Echoes of sea, sun, and summers on the Riviera are the sentiments that such furniture has always evoked; yet, when beyond the evocative materials one perceives the impetus of a thoughtful and refined design, these objects become precious elements for furnishing a sophisticated home.
On closer inspection, one can appreciate the elegance of the lines and the high quality of craftsmanship. The Fratelli Castano workshop, responsible for the production of these mid-century armchairs, was a direct competitor of other companies in the field. However, the Castano brothers, under the name Industria Mobili in Giunco, chose to conquer the market not through mass production, but by emphasizing the superior quality of their pieces.
Having stood the test of time, the seating and furnishings that left the Anzano del Parco workshops near Como are today sought-after collectible items, still gracing beautiful homes by the sea and in the city. These armchairs have been professionally restored and are in excellent aesthetic and structural condition.
