Description
A very smart set of six George III mahogany "Chinese pattern" side chairs, having x-form back splats, slip seats and squared tapering legs with H-form stretchers, English circa 1780. These chairs correspond exactly to a 1780 drawing by Gillows, illustrated Plate 144, page 180, volume 1, Gillows of Lancaster & London 1730-1840, by Susan E. Stuart, Antique Collector's Club, 2008.
