Rare and elegant mahogany three-legged cock fighting stool with saddle-shaped seat, by James Shoolbred and Co., beautifully carved and turned legs ending in a pad shape that are mounted on ball feet, with bulbous turned T-shaped stretcher. It has wonderful color and patina. The underside is stamped with the registration number. The craftsmanship is outstanding.
James Shoolbred and Co. (aka Jas Shoolbred) were established in the 1820s at 155 Tottenham Court Road. It was originally a drapers supplying the furniture trade. In the late 1860s/early 1870s the company began designing, manufacturing and selling high quality furniture. -
