Set of Six Italian Modernist Steel and Brass Dining Chairs After Gio Ponti
-
Description
Set of six Italian steel dining chairs with brass finials/accents and beige handwoven plastic seats (ca. 1950s, Italy).
A more unique take on the Gio Ponti "Superleggera" chair with more desirable proportions - specifically, these chairs are relatively narrow but offer a generous seat and a higher ladder back for added support.
The design and materials employed combine Industrial/ Bauhaus styles with Italian Modernism, allowing them to work with a variety of decorating styles.
The crude assembly of the metal components with exposed solder joints is by design, as these are typically painted, and there is patina/wear to the steel, as shown. Woven seats are original and sound, showing only light wear consistent with age/use.
