Description
The Mid -Century Modern period of design is an era of unparalleled creativity and innovation marked by a major shift in design philosophy. Gone was the ornate excessive style of the past in favor of modern simplicity and functionality. Nowhere was this more prevalent than in Italy where Mid-Century Modern furniture design flourished in response to the changing attitudes and lifestyles of the post WWII society.
Experimenting with new materials designed for their usability like plastic, fiberglass, plywood and high density foam and embracing new technologies in manufacturing that put these materials to use, Italian designers created the distinctive, visually striking, bold, yet elegant “Italian style” that established Italy as the center of modern design.
This pair of quintessential Italian lounge chairs is attributed to designer Giuseppe Rossi. Made in the 1950’s, their sloping arms, elegant, tapered, brass capped legs and angled shape are indicative of Italian Mid-Century furniture.
Upholstered in a dark green, wide-ribbed corduroy with coordinating lumbar pillow, they add a touch of sophistocated elegance -
