Description
A quietly assertive expression of Brazilian modern elegance, this set of four dining chairs exemplifies Giuseppe Scapinelli’s refined interpretation of postwar modernism. Designed in Brazil during the 1950s, the chairs feature sculptural rosewood (jacaranda) frames with slender, tapering “toothpick” legs and a tall, gently inclined backrest—an architectural gesture that balances lightness with authority.
Scapinelli’s work occupies a critical position within Brazilian Modernism, merging European training with local material intelligence. The rosewood structure has been expertly refinished, revealing its depth and natural warmth, while the chairs have been thoughtfully reupholstered in a multicolored woven textile that enhances the linearity of the design without overwhelming it. Supportive yet composed in posture, the chairs offer a firm, upright comfort suited to extended dining.
Documented in period publications, this set stands as a rare and highly resolved example of mid-century Brazilian design. Discover more in person or book a private appointment. -
