Gray-green painted Gustavian sofa circa 1790-1809, Sweden. Neoclassical style Swedish sofa, hand-carved in pine. Scraped back to layers of early gray-green over light gray-blue paint. Features finely carved architectural pediment back and high arms, turned finials atop back posts and a skirt decorated with reed and ribbon motif carved in relief punctuated by two fluted panels. Raised upon four simple slightly-tapered squared legs and two front cylindrical feet. Storage available under seat, as this sofa was created to be convertible into a bed (apron pulls out to function as a frame with seat). Upholstered in linen with natural color bolster cushions made from antique hand-woven linen.
