Description
Highly Original Tufted English Wingback Settee in Patinated Leather England Early 20th Century
A handsome and rare English wingback Chesterfield settee, upholstered in richly patinated brown leather. England, late 19th Century to Early 20th Century.
It shows very elegant proportions, with tall wings and restrained scroll arms lending the settee a lighter and more architectural appearance. Deep buttoning extends across the high back, wings, arms, and seat and brass studded trim follows every contour, framing the silhouette.
The settee combines the comfort of a club chair with the presence of a library sofa. Its silhouette feels architectural yet inviting and would be equally at home in a grand hallway, study or contemporary interior. The leather has gained a wonderful patina over time. The leather has matured rather than worn, acquiring depth and warmth through a century of use.
Overall a deeply atmospheric piece that evokes the interiors of old country houses.
