Description
This very rare easy chair with matching stool, model V11, was designed by Danish designer Illum Wikkelsø and produced by Holger Christiansen in Denmark during the 1960s. Both pieces feature solid rosewood frames that highlight the wood’s rich grain and deep tones, lending a warm and organic quality to the design. The original tan leather upholstery has developed a warm patina over time, displaying visible signs of age and wear that contribute to the material’s natural texture and softness, enhancing the vintage authenticity of the set.
The chair is defined by a high, slightly winged backrest that offers excellent support while maintaining an open and airy profile. The seat and back cushions are generously padded to ensure comfort, complemented by angular armrests that extend slightly outward, accentuating the sculptural nature of the design. The chair is supported by four tapered rosewood legs, subtly angled to provide stability and a balanced stance.
The chair measures 87 centimeters in width, 92 centimeters in depth, and 85 centimeters in height (approximately 34.3 by 36.2 by 33.5 inches), with a seat height of 38 centimeters (15 inches). The accompanying stool, which echoes the tapered leg design of the chair, measures 65 centimeters in width, 49 centimeters in depth, and 32.5 centimeters in height (approximately 25.6 by 19.3 by 12.8 inches). It features a plush leather cushion that adds comfort and versatility, complementing the chair both functionally and aesthetically. Together, this set is a significant example of Wikkelsø’s mid-century Danish modern design, combining sculptural form with enduring comfort.
