Description
Rare pair of curved solid oak armchairs by Japanese designer Isamu Kenmochi for Akita Mokko (1964).
Rare vintage pieces in very good condition, not reissued.
Isamu Kenmochi (剣持勇) (1912-1971) is a Japanese designer. Father of Japanese modernism, influenced by Bruno Taut, Charlotte Perriand and Isamu Noguchi, he claims a design that brings together “machine and hand, human and nature, reason and emotion”. He is one of the initiators of industrial design in his country. He adapted foreign manufacturing methods and took advantage of technologies advances that he had observed during his international trips. He thus shaped a two-faced Japanese modern design where a reasonable production coexists in harmony with traditional crafts. These rare curved oak armchairs are models of technique and refinement. -
