About the Artist:
Joaquim Tenreiro (1906-1992) is widely regarded as the pioneer of modernist design in Brazil. Born in Portugal into a family of woodworkers, Tenreiro moved to Brazil in the 1920s and revolutionized the local furniture industry by moving away from heavy, European-influenced styles toward a lightness that suited the tropical climate. His mastery of native Brazilian hardwoods, such as Jacarandá (Rosewood), combined with his minimalist aesthetic and impeccable craftsmanship, makes his work highly sought after by collectors worldwide.
