Description
The model, titled “Concha”—Portuguese for shell—draws its identity from the gentle curvature of its enveloping backrest. Crafted in hardwood and upholstered in a refined gray velvet, this pair of armchairs rests on four delicately tapered legs, lending the composition a sense of visual lightness.
The defining gesture lies in the continuous sweep of the back, which arcs fluidly into the armrests, forming a unified, shell-like silhouette. This sculptural contour softens the geometry of the seat while maintaining clarity of line—a balance that reflects Joaquim Tenreiro’s disciplined yet expressive approach to form.
The contrast between the structured hardwood base and the supple upholstery underscores Tenreiro’s sensitivity to proportion and material harmony. At once elegant and restrained, the Concha armchairs embody the designer’s singular aesthetic—where structural refinement and sculptural presence coexist with quiet assurance. -
