Joseph Savina (1901-1983), a talented Breton cabinetmaker and sculptor, played a key role in the Seiz Breur art movement, which drew significant inspiration from the Arts and Crafts movement. He became the leading woodworker within the group and set up his own workshop in Tréguier, France. Savina's close partnership with the famous architect Le Corbusier was particularly notable. Le Corbusier entrusted him with crafting some of his sculptures, highlighting Savina's exceptional ability to transform traditional regional furniture into modern, innovative designs. Their collaboration began in 1935, sparking a lasting friendship based on mutual respect and admiration. The two often exchanged ideas, with Corbusier especially appreciating the "sense of plasticity" in Savina's work. Additionally, Savina created carvings inspired by Corbusier's designs.
Good original condition with great patina including small defects and wear consistent with age and use. -
