Art-Deco Accent Chairs in Black by Kem Weber for Lloyd, Pair
-
Description
A lesser known name than those of his more popular contemporaries, Karl Emanuel Martin "Kem" Weber was a designer whose work is sought after by the most discerning collectors today. His career is deeply rooted in the early 20th century along with greats such as Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Walter Gropius, and like them, Weber immigrated to America after the rise of the Nazi Party. He would enjoy a fruitful and diverse career working with some of the most beloved American companies such as Widdicomb, Friedman Silver, and Walt Disney Studios.
The architect, product, and industrial designer was based on California where he designed for a myriad of American furniture manufacturers. His Art-Deco style was highly influenced by primitive Mayan and Aztec forms and employed a crisp Bauhaus approach. Clean lines, minimal forms, and careful proportions are all commonplace in Weber's work and can be found in this handsome pair of accent chairs. His use of materials are delightfully simple; a tubular chrome frame which elegantly frames upholstered black upholstery. Geometry is Weber's game here, and he is unsurprisingly the victor. -
