Description
This LC/PJ-SI-41-A armchair, also known as the Advocate and Press Chair, was designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret in the 1950s for the High Court of Chandigarh, Sector 1. Originally used by courtroom advocates, this chair was crafted from solid teak, ensuring both durability and a refined aesthetic. The backrest, seat, and armrests are slightly slanted and upholstered in high-quality cowhide leather, providing a soft yet sturdy surface that will continue to develop a rich patina over time. The distinctive "bridge" type side leg assembly features slanted, profiled flat legs that support separate armrests with "roll" type padded covers. A front and back rail reinforce the seat structure, maintaining stability and longevity. A true example of Pierre Jeanneret’s commitment to functional yet elegant design, this chair is a rare and historically significant piece with provenance from the High Court of Chandigarh. It remains in excellent vintage condition, with only minimal wear consistent with its age.
