Cimo, Brazil, 1950s — Set of 8 Dining Chairs in Hardwood with Dusty Olive Mohair

$ 30,000
  • Description
    A rare and sculptural set of eight dining chairs by Cimo, Brazil, circa 1950s — comprising two head chairs with armrests and six side chairs — executed in ebony-finished hardwood and newly upholstered in muted sage / dusty olive mohair.

    The silhouette is architectural and disciplined. Each chair features a tall, slightly reclined backrest that tapers subtly as it rises, establishing a strong vertical presence at the table. Long, finely tapered legs and restrained stretchers give the forms a poised, sculptural stance — slender yet commanding.

    Head Chairs:
    The two armchairs introduce a refined material contrast. In addition to the ebony structure, they feature a gently curved jacarandá (rosewood) back crest that frames the upper panel, adding warmth and depth against the darker frame. The rectilinear armrests project forward in a clean horizontal line before dropping vertically into the front legs, reinforcing the architectural clarity of the design while offering generous comfort.

    The six side chairs maintain the same imposing height and proportions, executed entirely in ebony, creating a disciplined rhythm around the table.

    The entire set is upholstered in luxurious dusty olive mohair — mid-tone, desaturated, cool-leaning, and matte, with no yellow cast. The fabric absorbs light beautifully, enhancing depth while preserving a tailored, understated finish.

    All eight chairs retain their original Cimo manufacturer’s seal — a significant detail confirming authenticity and period.

    A complete, matched set with differentiated head chairs and intact maker’s marks is increasingly uncommon. Architectural, imposing, and unmistakably Brazilian.
