Italian midcentury 'Sleep-o-Matic" model sofa / couch by Marco Zanuso for Arflex, 1951.
Metal structure, solid brass legs, foam rubber back and upholstered in stitched leather. The seat cushion is mounted on a track allowing it pull away from the back and create a single bed.
Exhibited: Triennale of Milano in 1951 and awarded with the gold medal.

Marco Zanuso (1916-2001) was a professor of architecture in Milano was one of bright stars of Italian design during the post-war period that saw Italy resume it's place in the design world. -
