    Rare pair of armchairs from the Ammiraglia collection , very early work of Mario Bellini for La Rinascente .

    Mario Bellini (Milan, 1 February 1935) is an Italian architect and designer. He graduated in architecture in 1959 at the Milan Polytechnic. In the 60s he began his activity in the field of design, opening a professional studio. From 1961 to 1963 he was director of design at the Rinascente, the famous and prestigious chain of department stores. In 1987 he founded Mario Bellini Associati Srl, now Mario Bellini Architect (s), of which he is president. Since 1963 he has held the position of chief design consultant at the Olivetti company; his most famous projects include the Divisumma 18/28 calculators (1973) and the Praxis 35 and Praxis 45 typewriters (1981). From 1969 to 1971 he was president of the Association for Industrial Design and in 1978 he became a consultant for research and design for the well-known car manufacturer Renault. From 1986 to 1991 Bellini was director of Domus and from 1979 he became a member of the Scientific Council of the design section for the Milan Triennale. He also taught in many design schools, including the Higher Institute of Industrial Design in Venice from 1962 to 1965, the Hochschule für angewandte Kunst in Vienna between 1982 and 1983 and at the Domus Academy in Milan from 1986 to 1991. He participated as a lecturer in seminars and conferences in various countries of the world. Art lover, collector, he has also dedicated himself to the preparation of art exhibitions. Personal exhibitions have also been dedicated to Bellini and he has received the Compasso d'Oro eight times, ranking first among the winners of the award. He has received other international awards, including the Gold Medal awarded by the President of the Republic Carlo Azeglio Ciampi for the diffusion of design and architecture in the world (2004) and the Gold Medal of Civic Merit of the Municipality of Milan (Ambrogino d'Oro, 2011)
