Description
Martin Grierson’s (b. 1932) career has spanned over six decades to date, and has seen him transition from an award winning industrial designer of the 60s to one of the pioneers of the 70s British Craft Furniture Revival.
After graduating from the Central School of Arts & Crafts London in 1953, Grierson spent ve years as an assistant to leading architects and designers. This experience lead to a strong understanding of buildings, and architects’ ideas about design.
Grierson established his own company in 1975, after 15 years practicing as a free-lance designer, with the objective of making ne examples of modern furniture to his own designs; “I set out to make proper pieces of furniture that exploit traditional forms of construction but are, never the less, expressions of today”. He employed a small team of craftsmen & women and made, to commission, furniture for the home and office, corporate clients, Local Authorities, Museums & Galleries, Churches, Government Offices and Colleges.
At the age of 84, Grierson still works to this day, on more modest private commissions. -
