Influential Italian architect Melchiorre Bega (1898–1976) was a leading figure in Italian rationalist architecture, blending modernist principles with Italian craftsmanship. He was also a prolific furniture designer - with this pair of bergère lounge chairs showing his exceptional style that predates the popular Gio Ponti chairs from the 1950s. Generous in size with button back and mini wings. Profiled arms and perfect Italian conical legs. Gorgeous striped cream and orange wool upholstery in excellent condition. Produced by his family's company, Vittorio Bega & Figli, based in Bologna - 1940s.
