Description
‘Danish Modern’ is unquestionably a conventional and popular branding device, with many companies explicitly promoting their products as examples of “good design and hygge”. But Danish Modern design does not simply represent good design made in Denmark, it also projects a powerful, concrete rendering of a sort of essentialized Scandinavian lifestyle embedded in objects, such as this lounge chair.
This chair is an elegant and comfortable evidence of the mastery and artistry of the Swedish cabinetmakers who had a large role in defining mid-20th century modern seating. This model is of the highest quality, both in terms of materials and craftsmanship. Scandinavian mid-20th century seating designs revolutionized the history of what we consider modern design today, becoming unrivalled references in it. Cabinetmaker chairs’ individuality becomes evident upon closer inspection. In this lounge chair’s case, its welcoming, elegant outline and solid bun feet stand out immediately. The design’s inventiveness bears witness to the synthesis Danish cabinetmakers have achieved between form and function, in which aesthetics and utility come together in a purely Scandinavian manner. The fully upholstered wooden frame rests on stained beech legs that provide contrast to the light coloured wool blend fabric. Without any excess decoration, the focus is on the round, flowing lines of the body and its upholstery. The differing front and back legs add just enough playfulness to add interest without taking away from the modern, elegant aesthetic.
From the frame to the upholstery, this lounge chair guarantees utmost quality and longevity. This cabinetmaker creation is the perfect illustration of how the pairing of Danish design, the work of a true cabinetmaker, and luxurious upholstery create exceptional pieces.
