Description
Strongly influenced by the functional forms of the Bauhaus school in Germany, European mid-century designers led the way in furniture design during the 1950s. They combined traditional craftsmanship, minimalist design and the highest quality materials with the inspiration brought by new industrial technologies.
The elegant organic lines of this lounge chair’s design create a striking silhouette that is typical of mid-century modernism. The embracing back and the curved arms create the cosy impression which is partially why mid-century modernist pieces are so influential today. The armrests run down to the very end of the seat, and are sculpted to perfection. The generous proportions and luxurious upholstery provide great sitting comfort in the name of functionality, while the subtle elements like the wingback and button tufting provide visual interest. The short wooden legs are thicker in the front providing additional visual interest while also keeping the cosy look of the design. The modern aesthetic is further elevated by the textured, multicoloured upholstery that complements the shape and the stained wood legs as well.
From every single angle, this lounge chair offers stunning lines and a rich texture. Above all, mid-century designers believed that design could certainly be used to improve people's lives. Looking at this chair, this evidently wasn’t a far-fetched goal.
